Catherine Marie Thomas designs for 27 Dresses

27 dresses, written by Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") and starring Emmy-winning Katherine Heigl, is a romantic comedy about wedding junkie Jane who shuttles between wedding parties in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Traditionally, a bridesmaid dress is the silliest looking/poor fitted dress at a wedding party - the "masterpiece" of an "inventive" bride/mother-in-law. 27 dresses makes no exception. Therefore Jane (Katherine Heigl) has a closet full of 27 bridesmaid dresses, never to be worn again. But she keeps them all hoping one day she will be the main attraction.

Costume designer Catherine Marie Thomas says she found ideas on eBay and at local resale shops. "You'd be surprised at how many gowns of that genre are littered in thrift and vintage stores. It's interesting to see what people discard." Catherine Marie Thomas, a Chicago native, is a graduate of both Chicago Academy for the Arts and Kansas City Art Institute. She made her professional debut as a designer in the costume shop at The Julliard School.

She has collaborated with Quentin Tarantino for "Kill Bill" (Vol. 1 & 2), a project that lead her to two Costume Designers Guild(CDG) Awards nominations, with Robert Altman for "A Prairie Home Companion", Neil Jordan ("The Brave One"), Richard Shepard ("The Matador"), Richard Linklater ("Tape") Ethan Hawke ("The Hottest State", "Chelsea Wall") and Edward Burns ("Purple Violets", "The Groomsmen", "Ash Wednesday", "Sidewalks of New York").

the dress is by amsale, i emailed the website asking for the wedding dress of 27 dresses and they sent me a picture but it is slightly different as the band around her waist is not lace! you can view the dress on the website but its not as nice as the one in the movie.

you can customize the amsale dresses, for example you can put lace around that area, or even pink or blue or whatever you want! And the little sheer part between the bust you can make that lace or make the crystals blue or, again, whatever color you wish! That's what's cool about amsale. i love that dress, too!
